THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT GETTING STARTED:
TRY THE TRACK or TRY THE ROAD:
Come and try riding in a safe off road environment before you commit to a membership and buying a bike. You can train with us three (3) times before you need to commit to membership. We have bikes for you use during these sessions. Coaches are present at all training sessions.
The next step is to take out a cycling membership, and this is done via the Cycling Australia website. This needs to be done due to insurance requirements.
The club has a number of road and track bikes which are available for hire by members.
- Helmet – must comply with Australian Standard 2063
- Gloves – All riders 15s and under must wear gloves. The hands are one of the first things to hit the ground if you do come off.
- Glasses – sunglasses of any kind are fine to get you started. You will also need clear glasses after the sun goes down – this protects your eyes from bugs and dust. (clear safety glasses can be purchased cheaply at your local hardware store)
- Bike Knicks – These make riding much more comfortable but are not necessary in the beginning.
During the road season it is important to bring warm clothes to training as it can get very cold at the track once the sun goes down (layers are the key)
